Installation Guideline 100028-01.docx
The following information provides general guidelines for the installation of Earthscape luxury
vinyl tile and planks. All recommendations are based on the most recent available
information and in accordance with relevant Australian Standards. Please follow these
instructions and recommendations for a satisfactory installation of Earthscape luxury vinyl tile
and planks.
Prior to cutting and installing Earthscape luxury vinyl tile and planks, examine the product
carefully to ensure that it is completely what you ordered.
• Is it the correct colour and pattern?
• Is it the correct quantity? Have you checked the dye lots”
Claims cannot be accepted if Earthscape luxury vinyl tile and planks have been cut and you
have not checked the above.
Earthscape luxury vinyl tile and planks are manufactured to the world’s highest standards
and go through strident post production inspections. Occasionally, however, defects are not
detected. If you notice a visible defect with the product you are installing, stop the
installation and contact the Customer Service Technical Department.
SUBFLOOR REQUIREMENTS
Install over smooth, clean and dry concrete, mosaic floors, or wood floor covering material
as long as its condition is perfectly smooth, without cracks, dry, and free of oil, wax or other
contaminants prior to installation.
Existing floor covering (such as porous ceramic tile) should still be well adhered to the
subfloor, or removed before installing your new Earthscape luxury vinyl tile and plank
flooring. Floor must be smooth and in optimal condition, otherwise any defect may show up
in the surface of your new floor. If the subfloor has cracks or small holes, it will be necessary
to patch it with non-shrinking Portland based cement with latex additive.
Earthscape luxury vinyl tile and planks can be installed on Masonite and cement sheeting,
care must be taken to follow underlayment manufacturer’s specifications on installation and
suitability of product. In all cases, the underlayment manufacturer or underlayment installer
is responsible for all underlayment warranties.
NOTE: SIGNATURE FLOORCOVERINGS WILL NOT ACCEPT ANY CLAIMS OR BE
RESPONSIBLE FOR THE SHOW THROUGH OF ANY SUB-FLOOR IMPERFECTIONS.

SITE CONDITIONING
1. Before installation, the floorcovering shall be stacked within or near the
installation area for a period not less than 24 hours or until such time as the
product has achieved ambient room temperature range of 18ºC - 28ºC in which
it is to be installed in.
2. Under normal conditions with an outside temperature above 12ºC the tiles
and/or planks should be off-loaded from the pallet and stacked no more than five
(5) boxes high during the conditioning period. The stacks should be arranged to
allow the air to circulate around stack on all sides. In cold weather where there
is an outside temperature below 12ºC the boxes should be opened and the tiles
and/or planks spread out in the area where they are to be installed. This will
permit the tiles and/or planks to acclimatise more quickly to the temperature
range of 18ºC - 28ºC. This is especially important with high vinyl content
products.
3. In situations where sunlight will be directly exposed to the substrate, all
precautions should be taken to ensure the windows are “blacked out” 24 hours
prior to installing, during installation and 24 hours after installation. This is to
prevent thermally induced dimensional changes of the product. In cases where
the Earthscape luxury vinyl tile and planks will be exposed to prolonged high
temperatures from direct sunlight, a two (2) part adhesive should be used in
these areas.
ADHESIVE
1. A total cure type acrylic adhesive shall be used for Earthscape luxury vinyl tile
and plank installations. Pressure sensitive type adhesives are not an appropriate
type adhesive.
2. The amount of adhesive that can be spread at any one time depends upon the
prevailing site conditions, such as temperature, humidity and flow through of
air which will affect the open time of the adhesive. The adhesive manufacturer’s
data sheet will provide details of open time and initial track times.
3. The installation area should be divided into workable sections, leaving the
perimeter tile and planks un-adhered until the main body of the floor has been
laid.

INSTALLATION OF TILES &/OR PLANKS
Best results are obtained by installing the floor from the centre of the room.
1. Measure and mark at the centre of each end wall.
2. Connect these centre points with chalk line.
3. Locate the centre and establish a line at a right angle to the existing line (use a
carpenter’s square). It is best to add an additional 5% to the total for cutting
waste.
4. Divide the length between the walls (in centimetres) by the width of the tile
and/or planks. If less than half a plank will be installed at the border, it will be
necessary to adjust your chalk lines. Your floor will be more work and less
attractive if you have to cut a sliver of tile or plank for the border than if a wider
piece remains.
5. Try not to spread more adhesive than you can lay flooring into before it loses its
grabbing strength. Tack time will vary depending upon temperature and
humidity. Follow adhesive manufacturer’s suggestions for trowel size and open
time. We recommend the use of a hard setting adhesive specifically designed
for the installation of solid vinyl tile and planks. The use of solvents to remove
dried adhesive may discolour the floor. Therefore, you should first test the
solvent on either a scrap piece, or in an inconspicuous area.
Installation of planks in areas that receive prolonged periods of direct sunlight can lead to
plank discoloration. The use of blinds or drapes is recommended in these areas during peak
sunlight hours. Excessive temperatures due to direct sunlight may cause plank expansion.
LAYING PLANK FLOORING
1. Carefully place the first piece of plank at the junction of the chalk lines (Figure 1).

Installation Guideline 100028-01.docx
2. Continue to lay the plank making sure each plank is flush against the chalk line and
tight against the adjoining plank. Make sure that the plank is well seated into the wet
adhesive, paying special attention to the edges. Lay in a pyramid fashion or row by
row (Figures 2 and 3).
3. To fit partial planks, lay the piece to be cut exactly over the last full piece, place
another full piece against the wall and make the cutting line where they overlap.
Make sure the cut edge of the flooring is against the wall to ensure the factoryfinished
edges are next to each other.
4. To fit the floor around door jambs, pipes or other protrusions, cut a paper pattern to
fit, and trace it on the face of a piece. Cut the piece and try fitting it into place before
installing.
5. When finished installing, use a 45kg roller to roll the floors. This will ensure the floor
is firmly adhered.
COMPLETION
All exposed edges of resilient sheet and tile floor coverings or edges abutting other floor
covering materials shall be protected by means of diminishing strips or other suitable
mouldings.
When the installation is completed all the scrap material and debris should be removed from
the floors swept or suction cleaned to remove all dust and debris.
Remove any excess adhesive immediately with soapy water. Dried adhesive should be
removed with non-flammable cleaner or solvent. Dried adhesive may be difficult to remove,
therefore take care to remove adhesive from the surface of the product before it dries.
Do not wash the floors for 48 hours after installation. After 48 hours, damp mop to remove
residual surface dirt.
Climatic conditions will affect the longevity of the product and may affect the longevity of the
product and may affect adhesion of Earthscape luxury vinyl tile and planks. In these areas
an epoxy or a polyurethane based adhesive is recommended. Windows or areas where
direct sunlight can be exposed to the floorcovering must be protected with window
treatments such as but not limited to tints, curtains, blinds, shades, shutters, etc.
