Hot press vs Cold press
why hot press strandwoven
bamboo is better

Greater density

Hot press bamboo is compressed to 15% more density than cold press, creating a heavier and more dense board. This offers far greater stability and durability. Cold press doesn't offer the same density, and is more likely to contract or expand according to the environmental conditions.

More consistency in moisture content

The hot press technique allows the moisture content to be released more evenly from the bamboo, ensuring no pockets of moisture remain within the floorboard.

Greater structural stability

Limitations with cold press manufacturing make it difficult to create a single board wider than 100mm. Instead two boards often need to be glued together, creating a join down the board which can result in reduced structural stability.

Longer lasting

holistic flooring Hot Press Bamboo Flooring has been proven to last longer than cold press bamboo. By subjecting the bamboo to intense heat, followed by intense cold (the 'boiling test'), it was found that hot press bamboo lasted three cycles before disintegrating, while cold press bamboo lasted only one and a half to two cycles.

The manufacture of HOLISTIC Bamboo

At holistic flooring, we work very closely with our supplier to ensure our bamboo is of the highest quality. Here are some of the key reasons we think our bamboo is superior.

Stronger

The bamboo used for holistic flooring's bamboo flooring originates from inland China, and is exposed to significant climatic variations. This results in a much stronger bamboo, further enhancing its natural hardness and durability.

Superior raw material

Many bamboo manufacturers purchase raw bamboo boards from a multitude of suppliers, losing control over their supply chain. All raw material in holistic flooring Bamboo Flooring is harvested from the same forest, ensuring consistency in appearance and quality.

Greater stability

After holistic flooring Bamboo has been 'hot-pressed', the block is left untouched for one month, allowing stress to be released from the bamboo. This results in greater stability in the finished boards, offering less likelihood of movement once laid.

Less formaldehyde released in the home

holistic flooring  Bamboo easily meets the E1 European standard on formaldehyde release. After the block has been hot pressed, it is left to sit for one month, during which time the majority of the formaldehyde is released.

Tough anti-scratch coating

Eachholistic flooring Bamboo board receives 10 to 12 coats of world leading Klumpp coatings, making it much more resistant to scratc
