Stylish Sustainable Strong

Technically a grass, bamboo is one of the world's fastest growing and strongest plants. Bamboo can be harvested every 5 years, making it a more sustainable alternative to timber, which can take up to 60 years to re-grow. Because of its sustainability qualities, high durability and stylish appearance, it comes as no surprise that bamboo is increasingly demanded by home owners and architects alike.

Greater stability
After Bamboo has been 'hot-pressed', the block is left untouched for one month, allowing less stress to be released from the bamboo. These results in greater stability in the finished boards, offering like hood of movement once laid.

Less formaldehyde released in the home
Bamboo easily meets the E1 European standard on formaldehyde release. After the block has been hot pressed, it is left to site for one month, during which time the majority of the formaldehyde is released.

Tough anti-scratch coating
Bamboo board receives 10 to 12 coats of world leading Klumpp coatings, making it much more resistant to scratching than other inferior coatings.

How is Bamboo Flooring made?
The Process
The bamboo flooring is manufactured from mature bamboo canes, which have at least 4-5 years growth. Bamboo is cross cut to the required length. The outside bamboo knots are ground off. Bamboo is put through a splitting and sizing machine. The inside bamboo knots are ground off and outer skin is removed. All the bamboo strips are boiled in a bath of boric acid and lime solution. The purpose of this bath is to extract the inherent starch that attracts or powder post beetles. Boric acid and lime are natural non-toxic repellents and are used to ensure that our products will come to you pest free and remain so throughout their lifetime. The strips are air and kiln dried. The moisture content of the bamboo strips reaches to 10%-12%. The bamboo strips are carbonized and put into a pressurized steam vessel to achieve the colour change. Each bamboo strip is carefully checked and sorted by colour. The bamboo strips are glued together. They are then put into a hydraulic press, and set by a combination of heat and pressure. The assembled planks are planed and sanded on both faces. The planks are coated with aluminum oxide and UV cured. Every board is inspected and sorted by colour, then packed and sent to the warehouse.

What's the difference between Hot pressed & Cold Press Manufacturing process ?
There are two different processes for manufacturing Strand Woven Bamboo flooring- Either Hot press or cold technology. We have produced our floors with the superior hot press the process.Hot pressed boards are cut from whole blocks of strand woven bamboo. The original block is soild with no joins within the whole structure. This ensures that there are no cold joints in process.Hot pressed boards are cut from whole blocks of strand woven bamboo. The original block is solid with no joins within the whole structure. This ensures that there are no cold joints in individual floor boards which is common to the cold pressed method. Cold pressed boards have joins in the individual floor boards which are substantially weaker than the bamboo. There cold joints can later weaken and split. The hot press process also produces natural variation between planks which gives our florrs a more natural Australian flavour.

Bamboo is the only bamboo flooring that fully waxes both the long and short side of the board. This eliminates creaking in the joints which is common to floating floors and also

Why is holistic flooring Bamboo flooring the hardest in the world?
Hardness is the main factor in durability. The hardness of bamboo flooring can be relatively soft or hard in comparison to other woods, and dependent on three main factors - the species of bamboo used, its age at harvest and the climate in which it is grown.

Which Click System do you use?
There are many different varieties of bamboo within China. We specify only the hardest Mosa bamoo species (phyllostachys pubescens). Our Mosaregion of china, which produces a longer growth rate due to the colder climate. This in turn ensures a much lower noisture content in the growth phase and maximum density at harvest time. We only harvest the bamboo at full maturity, between (5 1/2 - 6 years). Research has shown that this is at its peak. In contrast, softer species are generally harvested at 4 1/2 years. The manufacturing process also impacts on the hardness of the flooring. By Strand weaving the fibres, it ensures the flooring is by far the hardest and most stable of all bamboo flooring. In fact, it is twice as hard as verical or horizontal bamboo flooring and more dimensionally stable. We use the worlds best Unclick click system on both the long and short side of our flooring. This modular click system allows for easy installation for DIY to professional installers. The uniclic system is the only 100% glueless system available.

What is the Banka Hardness Test ?
The Banka hardness test measures the hardness of wood. It measures the force required to embed an 11.28 mm (0.444 in) steel ball into wood to half the ball's diameter. This method leaves an indentation. It is a good measurement technique to determine the ability of a type of wood to withstand denting and wear. It is also a good indicator of how resistant it is to sawing and nailing. The results are stated in various ways, which can lead to confusion, especially when the name of the actual units employed is often not attached. In the United States, the measurement is in pounds-force (lbf). In Sweden it is in kilograms-force (kgf). Here in Australia, either in newton’s (N) or kilone wtons (kN). Sometimes the results are treated as units, for example "660 Janka". As you can see from the Janka Hardness test below Genesis Bamboo comes in at 14.6 KN. This is a much harder than most common hardwood floors sold in Australia. Our flooring is on average 22% harder than Spotted Gum and 140% harder than Tasmanian Oak and is ranked amount the hardest woods in the world. This makes Genesis Bamboo the perfect fit for a busy modern Australian lifestyle.
