Vinyl is a great option as it is very easy to care for and will look wonderful for years to come with the minimum of up keep. It has evolved into one of the easiest floor coverings to maintain. It is for this reason that they are usually installed into rooms that require a little extra care such as bathrooms, kitchens and work spaces.

For general maintenance we suggest that regularly sweeping your vinyl floor and occasional mopping are all you need to keep your floor looking great. Spills are no hassle, just wipe with a damp cloth. Several generic cleaning solutions are available on the current market to clean vinyl floors and you will find that most vinyl manufacturers will also make their own vinyl cleaning products with complete instructions.

You will also find a three-part package that is produced for industrial floors that consists of a cleaner, a floor stripper and a refinisher. The refinisher is applied rarely though it does help to restore the original shine to your vinyl floor.

Vinyl flooring is a very durable option though care must be taken as it can be damaged. Be careful not to use chairs and other furniture with sharp edges on the base of the legs or you may rip or scratch the flooring. Place felt or soft plastic pads under each leg to prevent this from happening.

CUSHION FLOORING MAINTENANCE GUIDELINE

PROTECT YOUR INVESTMENT
Our vinyl tile and planks have been manufactured with a high quality, durable factory finish. To maintain the appearance, we recommend a minimal maintenance program using our Holistic Cushion Floor Cleaning products.

RECOMMENDED INITIAL TREATMENT

• Do not wash your new floor for at least 24hrs after installation. This allows the adhesive and seam sealing to thoroughly set and your cushioned flooring to settle.
• Sweep with a soft brush or vacuum to remove any grit and dirt. This will avoid scratching your floor prior to implementing our recommended maintenance schedule.
• Check that the seam sealer on the joins has dried. Wash the floor using the Holistic Floorcoverings Cushion Floor Cleaner ­ follow the instructions as listed on the back of the bottle.

MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE

The nature of the maintenance will depend on the amount and type of traffic. It also depends on the designed appearance. A typical maintenance program for a standard residential area would be as follows:

• Sweep with a soft brush or vacuum the floor to remove any grit or dirt.
• Wet mop any soiled areas. Monthly Maintenance
• Sweep with a soft brush or vacuum the floor then mop the entire floor using Holistic Floorcoverings Cushion Floor Cleaner.
• Remove any marks using a damp eucalyptus cloth. Treatment for scuff marks Scuff marks on your cushioned floor surface are usually caused by dragging heavy items of furniture or sliding shoes across the floor. Generally these can be just wiped away due to the enhanced performance of the polyurethane surface protection. If you are having any difficulties in getting these off, we suggest the following:
• Add eucalyptus oil to a damp cloth and wipe scuff marks to remove any residue.
• Wash the area with Signature Floorcoverings Cushion Floor Cleaner.

NOTE: Do NOT use a solvent or ammonia-based cleaner, either in liquid or powder form. Plasticiser Migration. Rubber mats and rubber tips used on furniture and chairs will cause discoloration. Rubber backed mats and shoe polish can permanently stain your floor.

HARMFUL PRODUCTS

Paving paints, bitumen and concentrated acids will also cause discoloration. Stains: Most stains can be removed using a damp cloth. Don´t leave stains on your floor. Remove them immediately. Ultraviolet Light It is possible that your floor may fade due to ultraviolet light. Draw curtains as a precautionary measure during peak hours of sunshine. Gouging/Stiletto heels: Stiletto heels and sharp objects can cut and damage cushioned floors. Ensure furniture with sharp or small feet are fitted with suitable end caps or glides to distribute the weight evenly. Similarly, a protective material such as felt can be fitted to prevent massive marking from constantly moving furniture. To avoid damage when moving heavy objects such as refrigerators, lift or slide them into position on a sheet of particle board or plywood.

VINYL SHEET INSTALLATION GUIDELINE

This guideline will serve as Holistic Floorcoverings ® best practice guide for all installers to a professional quality installation for maximum customer satisfaction.

1. LAYING INSTRUCTIONS

The following recommendations are a guide for a professional installation of Holistic sheet vinyl flooring. Failure to follow these recommendations can affect performance and visual aesthetics of the vinyl. Please read carefully as no claims will be accepted if the manufacturer´s recommendations are not followed. All installation must be accordance with these recommendations and in accordance with Australian Standard 1884-1985 Floor covering-Resilient sheet and tiles-Laying and maintenance practices. Before cutting Holistic vinyl flooring please examines that it is completely as you ordered.

• Is it the correct colors and pattern?
• Is it the correct width?
• Is it the correct measurement?
• Is there any visual defect?
• Colors variation
• Damage.

Check for materials that need to be pattern matched. Failure to pattern match vinyl can cause edge shading variation. This is more prevalent in plain and diagonal patterns. Pattern matches are printed on the back of the samples in stands and books. Make sure pattern match has been allowed for as we cannot guarantee any extra material will be from same roll or product batch.

ACCLIMATISATION
Before installation, the floor covering should be stacked within or near laying area for a period not less than 48 hours in order to bring it to the temperature of the area in which it is to be laid. The preferred temperature range is 15°C to 30°C.

2. SUBFLOOR INFORMATION

Fully adhered vinyl requires the following sub-floor preparation: When fully adhering vinyl, the condition of the sub floor is critical, the sub floor should be suitable for a successful installation.

UNDERLAYMENT
Many times wood panel subfloors are damaged during the construction process or are not suitable for a underlayment. These panels must be covered with an approved underlayment. Underlayment panels are intended to be used to provide a smooth surface on which to adhere the finished floor covering. It must be understood that underlayment panels cannot correct structural deficiencies. Signature vinyl can be installed on Masonite and cement sheeting; care must be taken to follow Underlayment manufacturer´s specifications on installation and suitability of product. In all cases, the underlayment manufacturer or underlayment installer is responsibility for all underlayment warranties.

UNDERLAYMENT INSTALLATION
NOTE: ALWAYS CONSULT UNDERLAY MANUFACTURERS SPECIFICATION FOR INSTALLATION. Careful and correct preparation of the subfloor is a critical part of a satisfactory floor covering installation. Roughness or unevenness of the subfloor will telegraph through the new floor covering, resulting in an unsightly surface and excessive wear on high spots. Holistic Floorcoverings will not accept any claims or be responsible for the show through of any Sub-floor imperfections.

WOOD SUBFLOORS
Good ventilation is essential for under floors to prevent distortion, possible decay and excessive movement of the sub-floor, frame supports and underlay. If inadequate ventilation exists, subsequent damage to the floor covering material or adhesive systems will occur. Wood subfloors directly on concrete or installed over sleeper construction are not satisfactory for the installation of Signature vinyl should never be installed on the follow sub floors:

• Existing resilient sheet and tile Floorcoverings
• Carpet
• Yellow tongue/chipboard flooring

CONCRETE SUBFLOORS
Concrete subfloors must be dry, smooth, and plane as per the relevant Australian Standards for planeness/dryness and smoothness. Concrete subfloors must be free from dust, solvent, paint, wax, grease, oil, asphalt sealing compounds and other extraneous materials including builders chalk. The surface must be hard and dense, and free from powder or flaking. New concrete slabs must be thoroughly dry (at least six weeks) and completely cured. Curing agents, surface hardeners and other additives may cause adhesive bonding failure. These should be removed by sanding or grinding. All concrete slabs must be checked for moisture and alkalinity before installing material. The final responsibility for determining if the concrete is dry enough for installation of the flooring lies with the floor covering installer. Holes, grooves, expansion joints and other depressions must be filled with latex underlayment compound, and toweled smooth and feathered even with the surrounding surface.

3. LOOSE LAY INSTALLATIONS

All textile batch signature vinyl´s have no limits to the size they can be loose laid. All other Holistic vinyl´s can be loose laid if the area of installation is less than 28 square meters. Loose lay of these vinyl´s are not recommended in high traffic areas or when the use of roller chairs are required Care should be taken when large heavy objects are placed on vinyl were foot traffic regular walks alongside. It is recommended that when heavy household goods are present, the material should be fully adhered to the sub-floor. Seam sealing with a appropriate cold weld sealer is recommended on all loose laid installations. NOTE: Never use adhesive or double sided tape under seams of a loose laid installation. Following the correct loose lay recommendations signature vinyl will not curl or shrink. Fluctuations in the Australian climate may cause the vinyl to grow slightly. It is recommended on all loose lay installation to leave a 2mm gap around the perimeter. If this gap is not left and if silicon is applied to the perimeter this can impede the expansion of the vinyl resulting in buckling. It may be require re-visiting installation two weeks after to re trim once the vinyl has acclimatized.

4. FULLY ADHERED INSTALLATIONS

Holistic Floorcoverings have tested and recommend the use of the following adhesives for fully adhered installations:

• Polymer GS200 and GS 220
• Roberts 12SF
• Polymer 365

Always adhere vinyl following adhesive manufacturers´ specifications and recommendations. Any concerns in regards to adhesion must be referred to adhesive. A gap of 1mm must be left around perimeter to avoid buckling. Rolling of the installed vinyl is recommended to achieve transference of the adhesive onto the vinyl and to the sub floor. Failure to roll vinyl may cause buckling and bubbling. A 22-33 KG roller is recommended.

5. SEAM SEALING SEAMS

The application of a appropriate seam sealer is recommended for both fully adhered and loose lay installation. Care must be taken to follow seam-sealers recommendations and specifications. The following installation recommendations are to be used on the seams:

• Cover the completed seam with masking tape.
• Carefully cut through the tape with a sharp straight blade running in the seam
• Weld the seam, making sure that the applicator needle is pressed firmly into the seam.
• Once the sealer has dried the tape can be removed.

The above recommendations must be adhered to and all installation must be in accordance with AS 1884-1985.
